Pat McAfee thinks Jordan Love will meet expectations set by Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (10) Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

What a difference the weekend made for Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. Previously the fodder for national sports hosts, Monday saw show after show after show praising the young quarterback and the Packers’ youthful roster. While the team lost 21-17 to the New England Patriots, Love played extremely well…again.

As everyone knows, Love’s predecessor, Aaron Rodgers, has a very good relationship with Pat McAfee. He is a weekly guest on the show during the season, a show that is also co-hosted by his very good friend AJ Hawk. Because of this, many assumed that The Pat McAfee Show would not be, shall we say, Jordan Love friendly.

However, the show as a whole as approached the Love Era in Green Bay with an open mind, and now it sounds like they’ve taken a sure stance: Jordan Love is the next great Packers quarterback.

Pat McAfee believes Jordan Love will be the third straight great Green Bay Packers quarterback

During one of the segments on his show, McAfee said:

“Jordan Love, huh? This kid’s a player. Everyone was coming after us, saying we would not be Jordan Love supporters. I feel like we have been Jordan Love supporters, and watching him play, there’s good reason to be a Jordan Love supporter!

“His teammates love him. The Packers are going well with him. And against the New England Patriots, he’s throwing f—ing missiles.

“Jordan Love, I assume, has won over all the Packers fans that were maybe thinking ‘we’re going to be in a transition year, a bad year.’ And what I’m seeing out of him, Packers fans might be the luckiest group of people of all time. Again, it’s just preseason, but from Favre (that’s a compliment), to Aaron, to this guy. What an incredible run!”

McAfee goes on to review how the transition from one quarterback to the next, though it has not happened often in the last 30 years, has been uncomfortable. And it has been. But it worked out with Rodgers and it sure looks like it will work out with Love.

In two preseason games, Love has completed 12 of 18 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns, good for a quarterback rating of 127.4. Of course, it is only preseason; but the early consensus is that Love is going to be more than good; he’s going to be great.

Of course, the Packers will need more than just their starting quarterback to take a step forward in 2023. Their young core of wide receivers need to take the leap and one or both of their rookie tight ends need to emerge as legitimate receiving threats.

Additionally, the defense needs to [finally] play up to its potential with eight first round picks being a part of their unit. This looks like it could finally be happening as Green Bay has the highest graded offense and defense according to PFF this preseason.

If Love is as good as he looks in preseason, Green Bay could reclaim the NFC North this season.
